Journals and articles

The Library has journals, in print and electronic format, covering different subject areas: business, economics, finance, management, geography, earth & environmental sciences.

Being the journal library of the Social Sciences Department, it also owns the journals of the Political Sciences area.

How to find a journal

To check whether a journal is owned by Padua University Libraries, use GalileoDiscovery.

You can click on Journal Search in the top bar and use the following options to find journals:

  • enter a journal title in the search box
  • or scroll through the list of available journals for a specific subject area, using the categories list on the left (e.g., Business & Economics or Social Sciences or Earth & Environmental Sciences).

Electronic journals

Many journals have online access, as reported in GalileoDiscovery.

Print journals

If only the paper format of a journal is available, check the location and availability in the library:

  • current issues of journals are located on open shelves in alphabetical order in Salone (red displays)
  • pre-current issues are kept in the repository on the ground floor, placed in progressive numerical order: EMERO.PER.No. or GEO.PER.No.

Remember that journals are not loanable, but can only be read on site or photocopied within the limit of 15 percent of the publication, in compliance with Italian copyright law (Law No. 633 of April 22nd, 1941and subsequent amendments)

Some of the journals are stored at the New Legnaro Archive - NAL, which is not accessible to the public. Procedures to request this material are detailed on the web page of the New Legnaro Archives - NAL.

How to find a journal article

In GalileoDiscovery

To delve deeper into a topic, select the “Search All” option from the drop-down menu of the simple search box in GalileoDiscovery: this will allow you to broaden your search and also retrieve journal articles, in most cases available online. Enter keywords in the search box and refine the results using filters and facets on the right.

In Economics and Geography databases

Databases are online repositories that may contain scholarly journal articles, books, and bibliographic references. They may be multidisciplinary or discipline-specific.

Find all the databases in GalileoDiscovery through Database Search: you can search by title, if you know the resource, or browse by topic (e.g., Economics or Geography).

If you can not find the article you need

If you cannot find the article you are looking for in Padua University libraries, you can use the Document Delivery service.
