Books

The library provides a large collection of books on mathematics and computer science, both in print and electronic format.

GalileoDiscovery describes all the books in the library and how to borrow or access them (for the eBooks).

Print books

Most books are classified and shelved using the Mathematics Subject Classification (MSC), 2010 edition. The following books are not shelved with the MSC: non-mathematical/computer science books (call number D), complete works (call number OPERE), books published from 1830 to 1930 (call number ANTIC), some reference works, series and all non-standard size books.

Users can access most of the books by themselves: the course books are in the Sala Rossa, and the other books are in the "Sala Libri e Riviste". Books with a call number beginning with Antic, A, CONS.E, DEP are located on closed shelves and must be requested to the staff. Requests need to be made between 9 am and 5.45 pm Monday to Friday; requests made after 5.45 pm will be processed the following day.

To borrow books, users must take the books to the Information and Loan desk in the Sala Rossa.
Users can bring the books to their study place for consultation; once the consultation is finished, they must leave the books on the carts in the study rooms or at the Information and Loan desk.

Electronic books

The University Library System offers a collection of eBooks that can be accessed online or downloaded.
The conditions of access and use are set by the providers and described in GalileoDiscovery: some eBooks can only be read online, others can be downloaded, digitally borrowed and/or printed.

Online access

To access purchased eBooks, it is necessary to be connected to the University network. Remote access is available for users with an @unipd.it or @studenti.unipd.it email account.
Open access eBooks are also described in GalileoDiscovery.

Digital lending

Digital lending allows users to download and read eBooks on their devices for a limited time. It is managed on different websites, on which the user has to sign in.

The eBooks are protected by digital rights management software, which is used for digital lending. The eBook file becomes unreadable once the loan period has expired.
