The paper and electronic collections of Ca' Borin Library are a point of reference for research and teaching in Economics and Geography at the University of Padua.
The Library also collects and makes available all periodicals in the area of Political Science.
Economics
For the area of Economics and Business Sciences, the Library offers a collection of about 40,000 research and teaching books.
In particular, there are two important historical collections:
- the Marco Fanno collection
- the Giulio Alessio collection, consisting of the volumes of his library (about 750 books, of which at least 50 are ancient books)
Geography
For the Geography area, there is a collection of about 37,000 volumes, with a section of about 1,500 ancient and valuable books. They include: Atlases, Geographical maps, Brochures and extracts from magazines and publications of the former Department of Geography.
The Library specializes in the fields of human geography, physical geography and geomorphology. It has also been enriched with other disciplines for methodological support, such as geology, applied geology, hydraulics, statistics, archaeology, demography, etc.
The nature of research has led to the creation, over the decades, of an impressive Cartoteca, which preserves the cartographic heritage accumulated during the years by the “Institutes of Geography and Physical Geography” first (1873-1983) and the “Department of Geography” later (1984-2011). It includes the IGM (Military Geographical Institute) maps, nautical maps of the Navy Hydrographic Office and more.
The Geography section has some historical collections:
- the Armando Morbiato collection
- the Arrigo Lorenzi collection
- the two series “Quaderni del Dipartimento di Geografia” and “Materiali del Dipartimento di Geografia” (available in print and electronic format), with some of the scientific works produced by the teachers and researchers of the Department of Geography
