Bookshelf guide

The Library is on the 5th and 6th floors of the Psico2 building. The entrance is on the 5th floor, and to enter, it is mandatory to reserve a seat with the Affluences app. At the entrance, the desk staff can provide users with information about the services available.

V Floor

Degree courses texts

On the 5th floor, you will find the shelves with the texts of the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses. There are usually two copies of each volume, one non-lendable (night/holiday loan only) and one lendable in reduced mode (15 days).
The shelfmark is BD followed by a two-digit number corresponding to the APA code, a sequential number and in brackets a second APA code e.g. BD.33.130 (S-15) - only the first two numbers are useful for retrieving the volume from the shelf.

Journals – current year

The current year's magazine issues are on the flap shelves in the Exhibition Room. The latest issue is put on display, previous issues are located under the flap.

Monographic Sections

The monograph sections are organised according to the APA classification with codes ranging from 21 to 90: on the labels, a first APA code indicates the section, then a progressive number indicates the position on the shelves and finally a second APA code (subsection) in brackets refers to the contents (e.g. 23.2471 (S-40) - only the first two numbers are useful to retrieve the volume on the shelf).

Before the monographs (above the shelves in section 21) there is a Collections section, shelfmark COLL plus the collection number and the serial number of the volumes (e.g. COLL.III.9).

Reference section

Entering the Library from the right, at the end of the reading room, you will find the Reference section, which contains encyclopaedias, dictionaries, and other general and specialist tools. These are non-lendable materials. The shelfmark is CONS, plus a Roman numeral and a progressive number (e.g. CONS.III.100).

VI Floor

Printed magazines

The VI floor is accessed via internal stairs from both the PC Room and the Reading Room. In the area facing the PC room are the Library's magazines and periodicals in paper format which are not available online. The journals are not lendable. Their location is A- plus a progressive number, (e.g. A-30 - The Argonauts)

The journals are physically located in two different areas:

  • Italian journals, which include both current journals and closed or discontinued journals
  • Foreign journals, which only include issues from 2015 onwards

Please note: the files of the other journals owned by the Library (Italian and foreign journals with C- and A- placement, or foreign journals before 2015) are located in a repository and must be requested at the desk.
