Journals and articles
The Library holds current and discontinued journals in print and electronic format covering the different subject areas.
Journals in the library
Journals are located on the open shelf in the Journal Room.
Journals are not loanable: they can be consulted in the library or photocopied within the limit of 15% of the publication, in compliance with the Copyright Law.
Journals on deposit
Some journals, with a closed subscription, are kept in a deposit outside the structure. To consult them you can request them in GalileoDiscovery by specifying in the notes the year or the issue you are interested in: they will be available within 3 working days from your request.
Electronic journals
Through GalileoDiscovery it is possible to access a wide selection of journals in electronic format, both paid and free or open access.
Electronic journals can be accessed from all locations on the University network, remotely via the Auth-proxy service or in some cases with Single Sign-On (SSO). No formalities are required to consult free and open access resources.
How to search for journals
To search for a journal, physical or electronic, you can use GalileoDiscovery in these two ways:
- simple search mask, Library Catalogue profile (default choice): type the title in the search box and filter results by ‘Resource type’: Journals;
- Search Journals function in the top bar: allows you to search for a journal by title or scroll through the list of available journals for a specific subject area (e.g. History and Archaeology > General History).
If the journal is available in paper format, check in GalileoDiscovery for location and availability in the library.
For both print and electronic journals always check the stock, i.e. the library's ownership of the print journal, or the availability of issues for electronic journals.
How to search for articles
Search GalileoDiscovery
To find scientific articles on a given topic or by a certain author, i.e. a specific article, set your search in GalileoDiscovery using the simple search mask and selecting the profile Search all from the drop-down menu; refine, if necessary, the results obtained using the filters and facets in the right column.
Watch the Search an article tutorial.
Search in Philosophy databases
Databases are online archives that may contain articles from scientific journals, books, and bibliographical references. They can be multidisciplinary or specific to a subject area.
You can find all the databases made available to you by the University Library System in GalileoDiscovery thanks to the Search database function.
You can search by title, if you already know the resource to be searched, or browse by subject using the Categories in the left-hand column (e.g. Philosophy).
