Journals and articles
The Library holds journals in print and electronic format, current or discontinued, covering the different subject areas of reference: medieval and modern languages and literatures, linguistics, pedagogy, performing sciences, and history and literature of folk traditions.
Journals in the library
The current issue of some journals can be found in alphabetical order on the open shelf in Room A-1 (Basement Floor).
Earlier issues are kept in the storage rooms in the next room with placement in sequential alphanumeric order ( PER. A., PER.B., PER.C.).
Large-format journals ( PER.D.) are located in the Rare Room and must be requested in Reception.
Journals are not loanable: they can be checked out in the library or photocopied within the limit of 15% of the publication, in compliance with the Copyright Law.
Journals on deposit
Some journals, with closed subscription, are kept at the New Legnaro Archives (NAL).
Electronic journals
Through GalileoDiscovery you can access a wide selection of journals in electronic format, both paid and free or open access.
Electronic journals can be accessed from all locations on the University network or remotely via Auth-proxy service or in some cases with Single Sign-On (SSO). No formalities are required for browsing free and Open Access resources.
How to search for journals
To search for a journal, physical or electronic, you can use GalileoDiscovery in these two ways:
simple search mask, Library Catalog profile (default choice): type the title in the search box and filter the results by “Resource Type”: Journals;
Search Journals function in the top bar: allows you to search for a journal by title or scroll through the list of available journals for a specific subject area (e.g., Language and Literature> English).
If the journal is available in print format, check GalileoDiscovery for location and availability in the library.
For both print and electronic journals always check the holdings, i.e., the library's holdings of the print journal, or the availability of issues for electronic journals.
How to search for articles
Search GalileoDiscovery
To find scholarly articles on a given topic or by a certain author, i.e., a specific article, set up your search in GalileoDiscovery using the simple search mask and selecting the Search All profile from the drop-down menu; refine, if necessary, the results you get using the filters and facets in the right-hand column.
Search databases
Databases are online repositories that may contain scholarly journal articles, books, and bibliographic references. They can be multidisciplinary or specific to a subject area. Find all the databases made available to you by the University Library System in GalileoDiscovery through the Search Databases feature.
