Open Access publishing agreements and discounts
Thanks to specific agreements stipulated with publishers, Unipd authors who wish to publish their work in Open Access can take advantage of facilitations on the payment of Article Processing Charges (APCs). If you need support or have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Library Helpline.
Requirements for accessing the facilitations provided by Open Access Agreements
1) CORRESPONDING AUTHOR ELIGIBILITY FOR OPEN ACCESS INSTITUTIONAL FUNDING
The corresponding author must formally belong to the University of Padua.
- Only certain Open Access unlimited publishing agreements include adjunct professors.
2) INSTITUTIONAL AFFILIATION
Upon submitting the article to the journal, the corresponding author must indicate affiliation with the University of Padua.
- University of Padua: Best practices for institutional affiliation
For eligible authors, multiple institutional affiliations are allowed, but the primary affiliation must be to the University of Padua.
University Hospital of Padua is a Veneto Region Institution. For eligible authors, primary affiliation with the University is mandatory; secondary affiliation with the University - Hospital of Padua is recommended.
- Furthermore, the use of the institutional e-mail @unipd.it is strongly recommended.
3) ARTICLE ACCEPTANCE DATE & AVAILABILITY OF PUBLISHING OA AGREEMENT
Only articles accepted by the publisher/journal during the contract term are included.
- The inclusion criterion applied is the date of acceptance, rather than the date of paper submission.
Some publishing contracts provide a limited number of articles available annually for Open Access publication at a national level.
Corresponding authors, who choose to publish under the terms of an Open Access publishing institutional agreement, are responsible for covering the APC with alternative funding if the institution cannot provide financial support due to the exhaustion of available articles (limited agreements), depletion of funds (prepaid agreements), or failure to meet eligibility criteria.
- Information on the availability of articles is constantly updated in the boxes dedicated to individual publishers.
- For Gold OA (fully OA) publishing and limited OA agreements, it is mandatory to set aside an amount equal to the cost of the APC as indicated by the journal, including 22% VAT.
- The contract covers only Open Access fees; other expenses (colour pages, extra length, etc.) are not included.
Agreements types
A Read & Publish agreement is an institutional agreement in which the scholarly publisher receives payment for reading and payment for publishing bundled into a single contract. According to this type of contract, only authors belonging to the subscribing institutions can publish in Open Access without paying APCs.
A Read & Publish contract is a transformative agreement if it seeks to shift the payment from a library or consortium to a publisher, away from subscription-based reading and towards Open Access publishing in subscription/hybrid journals committed to transitioning to fully Open Access (Gold OA) journals. Publishing in Gold OA journals may also be included. In Italy, transformative agreements have been achieved through national negotiation by the CRUI CARE consortium.
Pure OA agreement is an institutional publishing agreement with a fully Open Access (Gold OA) scholarly publisher, which enables authors to publish without paying APCs.
S2O – Subscribe to Open is a scholarly journal subscription aimed at OA transformation through a more cost-effective mechanism for participating institutions. S2Os are based on transparent subscription costs, to transition the journals to Diamond OA and to support community-led OA publishing.
