The library
The Library of the former Institute of Statistics is mentioned for the first time in the minutes of the meeting of the Council of the Faculty of Law held on 30 January 1968 on the occasion of the establishment of the Faculty of Statistical, Demographic and Actuarial Sciences. ‘... the Faculty of Law unanimously declares its willingness to cede the Institute of Statistics with its library and equipment to the new Faculty, together with the School of Statistics and the Postgraduate School of Statistics...’.
In the beginning, the library was placed in a room on the top floor of the Bo palace; when the Institute also had a seat on the Mussato Riviera, the library had a branch office there as well.
In 1975 the premises moved to the Cà Borin building in Via del Santo where it remained until December 2001.
In 1984 it became the Faculty Library when the Institute gave way to the establishment of the Department of Statistical Sciences.
In 2002 it was moved to its current location in Santa Caterina in via C. Battisti no. 241. In 2012, following the Departmentalisation (Law No. 240 of 2010), the Library was afferent to the Department, becoming the Library of Statistical Sciences.
On 26 April 2016, the Library was named after Prof. Bernardo Maria Colombo, an internationally renowned statistician and one of the founding fathers of the former Faculty of Statistics.
Today, the Library is a reference point for research and teaching in the field of Statistics at the University of Padua.
