Journals and articles
Search for articles
To find scientific papers on a given topic or by an author you can use a multidisciplinary or disciplinary database.
Searching in databases differs from searching with a generic search engine as it allows for a particularly targeted search through the use of special filters and the recovery of referenced bibliographic information.
Using GalileoDiscovery it is possible to search for articles by starting a simple search using keywords or an advanced search.
In the "Database search" function of GalileoDiscovery, you have the list of all the purchased databases divided by disciplinary area. Once you have identified the database of your interest, following the proposed link you can access the resource directly on the publisher's platform.
Here you can see the list of databases selected for the engineering area.
The library staff offers you specific workshops. Consult the calendar.
Tutorial: Search for an article
Search for Journals
GalileoDiscovery is the catalogue of the University Library System and is the main tool, freely accessible online, to search for books and journals owned by the libraries of the University and the city of Padova.
When searching for articles in your reading list, you can use GalileoDiscovery's "Journal Search" function. Search by journal title. Check the article's bibliographic information (year, volume, issue). The journal may be available in print or electronic format or even in both and may be present in more than one physical library. However, there is no guarantee that the specific year or issue of the journal, in which the article you need is found, is available.
Printed journals
For each journal, in GalileoDiscovery, you will find the shelfmark (starting with DTG.PER.). That indicates its specific position on the library shelves.
Access to material
In the reading room Journals are displayed on open shelves and therefore freely accessible during library opening hours"
It is good practice not to put back the journals consulted. Please place them on the appropriate trolley so that library staff can put them back correctly.
Electronic journals (e-journals)
The University Library System offers a rich collection of journals in electronic format, available online and searchable with GalileoDiscovery.
Once you have found the Journal of your interest in GalileoDiscovery, in the Journal's "View Online" section, you'll find access information (for example "access limited to the University of Padova network"). If you follow the link provided, you will reach the publisher's platform.
