Cartography

Maps in consultation and digital reproduction service

The library preserves nearly 20,000 geothematic maps.

Some maps are loanable and others are only available for reference in the library. For better browsing and searching of maps use the MapFly service.

The library offers to the University researchers and students a digital map reproduction service for educational and research purposes: for this purpose, you need to fill out the request form.

Redundant maps

The Geosciences Library keeps some redundant geological and topographical maps, which it makes available for research and teaching purposes, for survey campaigns or exercises. Most of the 1:100,000 geological maps are tarped. The maps can be used for the duration of the activity or permanently for maps in more than two copies. A list of such maps can be found at this link.

In addition, the Library makes available, as a gift, geo-thematic and topographic maps that are surplus to the collection held in the map library for reference and loan. Department staff and geosciences students who are interested can contact the library counter, including by reserving them in advance by email.

The MapFly Project

In addition to the GalileoDiscovery catalogue, it is now possible to search for maps held at the University through the portal created with the MapFly project.

The MapFly portal allows the web search on a geographic basis of nearly 30,000 geothematic and geographic maps kept at the University of Padua and provides the download of their digital reproduction, when rights allow, mainly for historical cartography.

The webGIS tool is designed to facilitate access to this important heritage, still partly submerged, and thus support the various activities related to the study of the territory.
