The Cesare de Michelis Collection consists of approximately 35,400 volumes and various private papers relating to Italian literature from the 13th to the 20th century, and, to a less extent, the history of Italian publishing, cinema, theatre, and Venetian history and culture.
The texts became part of the library’s special collections thanks to a donation from the private library of Prof. Cesare De Michelis, Professor Emeritus of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Padua and President of Edizioni Marsilio.
Cesare De Michelis, a multifaceted figure in contemporary Italian culture, was a student of Vittore Branca, a lecturer in Italian Studies and director of the Marsilio publishing house, as well as holding institutional roles in Venice.
The cataloguing of the material has not yet been completed.
The volumes in the Cesare De Michelis Collection are held in a storage facility outside the Beato Pellegrino Library; they can be requested and reserved for on-site consultation via GalileoDiscovery.
Only those texts held exclusively at the Beato Pellegrino Library and not held by other libraries in Padua may be consulted.
Once the volumes have been reserved, you will receive an email notification confirming their availability: consultation is available from Monday to Friday, 9.00 am to 5.45 pm.
